Day in, day out
Today, we played a game in the office called "Passion". It sounds stupid (I know) and nobody wants to come into the office for half a day on the last day of the year JUST to play this game. But we came and played it anyway.
"Passion" really was as stupid as it sounds - There is a deck of cards with different words written on them. Like,
Family,
Advancement,
Financial Security,
Professional Development,
Health,
Being Creative,
Knowledge and you get the idea. So these were supposed to be the various "Passions". We had to pick out five which we deem are most relevant and important in our lives.
I forgot my exact 5, but I remember
Knowledge, Self-Realisation (I know, right!) and
Having Fun were in it. Oh, and then it gets tougher. From five, you'll need to narrow it down to one. Yes, that's right, The Single, Predominant, Most Overpowering Passion In Your Life. The type of passion that, you know, makes you reach for the moon and stars, burns holes in your heart and eat raw egg yolks everyday.
I am not proud to say that I do not have such a passion. However, I did manage to narrow it down to two (I cheated) -
Knowledge and
Having Fun. And then we had to apply that passion to our worklife and figure out stupid things like how this passion motivates us at work, and that got boring after maybe 18 seconds. But that's not the important part.
I did not know what I was supposed to do with "Knowledge" and "Having Fun" at first, but now I think I might have an inkling of the sort of impact my choices will have on 2010. But first let me talk about 2009.
In retrospect, 2009 has been, for the lack of a better word, a mediocre year. If I count it by milestones:
1. I crossed the first year at my job unscathed
2. I got into my first car accident
3. I made a new friend (one for keeps)
4. And reconnected with an old one
5. J'ai appris une nouvelle langue
6. I witnessed my bank account balance reach an all-time, record-breaking high
7. Only to have it go back to an all-time, heart-breaking low
8. I celebrated my birthday on a day that comes once every millennium
9. I found my ancestors (!!!!!)
For 2010, I do not wish to impose any overzealous goals or resolutions upon myself. Instead, I think I will work on the two "Passions" that I have shortlisted. I
still want to know things, many, many things, and in the process, maybe, have fun. It's a bit like being an adult and a kid at the same time, except you know when to be an adult and when to be a kid.
I hope the next decade unlocks many new adventures for yourself, as it will for me (God help me if it doesn't, because I'll be 34 when the next decade is over).
Have a spectacular 2010 everyone, be safe :)
